Rosa Regàs

Barcelona

Rosa Regàs was born in Barcelona where she graduated in Philosophy. She worked in the legendary publishing house Seix Barral, and in 1970 founded her own publishing house, La Gaya Ciencia. Between 1983 and 1994 she became a translator for the United Nations, a job she held until she was named director of the Ateneo Americano de la Casa de América in Madrid, a position that she left in 1998. She has been the director of the Spanish National Library from 2004 to 2007.
She is the author of the novels Memoria de Almator (1991), Azul (Premio Nadal 1994), Luna lunera (Premio Ciutat de Barcelona 1999) and La Canción de Dorotea (Premio Planeta 2001). She has published three collections of short stories, Pobre corazón (1996), Desde el mar (1997) and Viento armado (2006). Her travel books include Ginebra (1988), Viaje a la luz del Cham (1995), with Pedro Molina Temboury, Volcanes dormidos (Premio Grandes Viajeros 2005) and Memorias de la Costa Brava (2005). She has collected her articles for the press in Canciones de amor y de batalla (1995), Más canciones (1998), Per un món millor (2002) and El valor de la protesta, el compromiso con la vida (2004). She has written about her theories and experiences in Sangre de mi sangre. La aventura de los hijos (1998, which has been recently re-published) and Diario de una abuela de verano (2004).
