Ángel Viñas is doctor honoris causa at the University of Alicante, adoptive son of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and winner of the Great Cross for Civil Merit. He has been a professor at the Complutense University of Madrid, executive consultant to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, and director of relations with Latin America and Asia, multilateral politics, human rights, and democratization for the European Commission.
